Vintage Sterling Silver Canadian Birks Engagement Ring Box

We have for you a gorgeous 19 40's sterling silver ring box by a Canadian maker Birks, a company known for superb quality jewellery and silverware.

The box is a striking and unusual shape, marked on the inside as well as the bottom of the box, for Birks, and "Sterling" for sterling silver. The box has a firm insert with black velvet, finished with a cream silk trim. The measurements of the box are; length 41.6, width at the base 50, and at the top 35.6 mm. It weighs 72.8 grams. It closes with a nice snap, and is a lovely, tactile object with a smoothness only many years of passing time can achieve. The velvet is a tiny bit patchy, but original, and in good condition. Imagine proposing, opening this ring box ... how charming would that be! Equally, this box would be a fitting container to store your favourite ring in, or a start of a fun collection. The box is generally in very good condition with a couple of shallow scratches to the silver at the top. This will disappear from view on cleaning, we have left it as is, giving it a very light wipe with a silver cloth. How much patina will be left on it is up to its new owner.
