Vintage South Sea Cultured Pearl Diamond Platinum Pendant
South Sea pearls are the largest, most beautiful pearls cultured in the modern times. They grow in large oysters in specific parts of the world; the seas around Australia, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines. Some are perfectly round while others take on an irregular shape known as baroque. Only since the 1950's did the pearl industry of the region start to produce larger quantities of the pearls.
Our South Sea pearl pendant is not hallmarked and it tests platinum. It was made sometime in the 1980-90's. The pendant is set with a modern cut diamond estimated to weigh 0.14 carats, colour K and clarity VS1. It is set in a fine prong setting. The pearl is 17.5 mm long and 11.4 mm wide at its widest point. Large and utterly gorgeous, it is regular in size, white to very light cream in colour, with a satiny glow. A real treasure from the seas ! The pendant including the bale is 27.6 mm long and weighs 3.4 grams. It is in great vintage condition.
