Stunning Antique Polish Certified No Heat Ceylon Sapphire Old Mine Cut Diamond C

We are totally head over heels with this splendid diamond and sapphire ring ! It is large, opulent and dripping with precious, beautiful gems. A real head turner of a ring !

This continental beauty hails from the beginning of the 20th century Poland. It has a remnant of an older, silver hallmark which dates the ring to 1920-1931, and then a later set of hallmarks for both silver and gold, used from 1963 to 1986. Poland has had a law, whereby it was forbidden to sell un-hallmarked jewellery. The ring was most likely re-hallmarked when sold on. These later hallmarks confirm, that the gold content is 500, which translates to 12 karat gold, or 50% gold and 50% other metals. It was assayed in Warsaw, and by the fairly rubbed condition of the hallmarks we think it was done in the 60's rather than 80's.

The ring is hand crafted in rose gold, which at the moment is a little tarnished ( but we like it, so left it as is, it can be polished if the new owner would so wish ). The settings for the incredibly beautiful, old mine cut diamonds are made is silver. The diamonds are how we love them most ; early, chunky, oval cushion cuts, with high tables and large culets, plump and juicy, divine ! They pre-date the ring and were cut by hand mid 19th century, if not earlier. They range from H-K colour and VS to SI clarity, facing up lovely and bright in their silver settings. The estimated total weight of the diamonds is 3.72 - 4.00 carats. There are also two small rose cut diamonds, bezel set in the shoulders of the ring.

The centre of this fabulous cluster is bezel set with an impressive, high cabochon, mid-blue sapphire. We had the sapphire certified. It is a natural, transparent blue, no heat sapphire of Ceylon ( Sri Lanka ) origin. The sapphire isa gorgeous blue with a hint of lilac, it measures 12-13 mm in diameter with a depth of 8.6 mm. It is estimated to weigh 13.4 carats. There are some small, shallow abrasions to the surface of the stone, visible on very close inspection, but not when the ring is worn. This is consistent with the age of the ring and not detracting from the look or value of it, just a kiss of time gone by.

The face of the ring measures a sizeable and bold 29 mm in diameter. The ring sits 11.1 mm off the top of your finger, lovely and smooth on your hand. It is designed to fit like a velvet glove upon your hand, gorgeous ! Size US 7-7.5 or UK O-P. it is possible to make it larger the usual way, or smaller by inserting gold bobbles inside the shank.

The ring weighs 8.61 grams and is in lovely antique condition.
