Spectacular Antique Georgian Certified Natural Saltwater Pearl Ruby Ouroboros Sn
We have no words for this absolutely sensational Snake of Snakes... Early 19th Century, Georgian, set with the most sublime, natural saltwater pearls and natural rubies, he is an ouroboros, his own tail eating snake. A rare and precious find of outstanding beauty, and just look at the whooping, natural salt water pearl of gorgeous, drop shape. We can't help it and swoon !!
Ouroboros, an ancient symbol, is a snake depicted with its tail in its mouth, continually devouring itself, and then being reborn from itself again. As an alchemical symbol, it represents the oneness of all things, which never disappear but change form in an infinite cycle of destruction and creation. The ancients knew, that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change form and is eternal.
This superb pearl ouroboros was hand crafted around 1810-1820 in 15 karat mellow, yellow gold. It had a brooch, as well as a pendant fitting originally, we had the brooch fitting removed and a larger bale made in matching 9 karat gold. The bale is large enough for your thicker chains as well as the dog clips of your Albert chains, making it versatile and easy to wear. The pendant is just superb quality, the pearls lustrous and creamy white, beautifully matched and all original to the piece. They are all natural half pearls. The large pearl drop is certified as natural, salt water pearl and the pendant is sold with the certificate. Beautiful, natural pink, most certainly no heat Burma rubies are unfortunately too small to be certified. They are also all original and in beautiful condition as are all the pearls.
The snake measures 1.25 by 1 3/16 inches and the total length of the pendant with the bale is 1.5 inches. The pearl drop measures 11.5 by 7.7 mm max. The pendant weighs 6.29 grams and is in superb antique condition.
