Mid Century Diamond Lover's Knot Platinum Band Ring

Lover's knot is for love that cannot be untied, bound together into infinity. The association of knots with love, friendship and affection goes back to antiquity, but it has been associated mostly with the connection between two lovers in the several last centuries.

This gorgeous knot ring is of a particularly lovely shape. Just look at what it says.....so many different twists and turns and and lines crossing and uncrossing. So intricately woven together, that it cannot be untied. That is exactly what one lover said to another through the gift of this ring.

Made around 1950-1960, with Mid Century flair it is fully hallmarked " IRID.PLAT." for platinum with an addition of iridium ( usually about 10%). It is also numbered, suggesting a good maker and great quality and has a remnant of a maker's mark on the outside of the shank. We cannot make it out unfortunately, due to rubbing. The top of this ring spreads 21.6 across the finger and it is 9.1 mm wide max. It sits lovely and low on the finger at 3.3 mm. It weighs 7.2 grams and is size US 5 7/8 and UK L 1/2. It cannot be sized up but can be made a little smaller by the addition of a couple of small platinum balls to the inside of the shank. The ring is set with absolutely fabulous diamonds; round cut and Asscher. This cut of the diamond was developed in 1902 by Joseph Asscher, and was later patented by the Asscher Diamond Company. This was the very first time, that a diamond cut was patented ! The stones are superb quality, G colour and VS clarity. The total diamond content is estimated to be 1.1 carats. The ring is in lovely vintage condition.
