Magnificent Victorian Era Continental 44.5 inch 8K Gold Lantern Longuard Chain N

What a QUEEN of chains!!! This is an original Victorian era alternating link longuard chain crafted in Continental Europe around 1870-1880.

She features dual design links: one is a smooth snake type and the other a fancy eight sided box link, called a lantern link. These links have elongated triangle shaped sides and are decorated with intricate piercings throughout. She is just divine and looks fabulous on - by herself or stacked up with other chains. She has a lovely screw dog clip clasp, operating with Victorian precision, please take a look at our photos. She is 44.5 inches long and easily wraps around the neck twice, or can be worn opera length. 

This gorgeous chain is made out of the dreamiest 8 karat yellow gold, which has the warmest ever tone to it and one that you will find will go easily with everything, both antique and modern jewellery and with all skin tones. She is not hallmarked so we had her electronically tested, likely made in Germany, where the famous Pforzheim jewellery making centre existed from the 18th century.

A little note on the sizing - the snake skin links are 2.7 mm wide and 30 mm long, while the lantern sections are 4.1 mm wide and 19.7 mm long (measured without the loops on their ends). She weighs a lovely 27.6 grams and is in an amazing antique condition. The quality and the workmanship of this necklace are just fantastic.
