Fabulous Antique Victorian Diamond Star Pendant

This shining star, what a splendid Victorian celestial creation !

This gorgeous piece of Victorian era jewellery was hand crafted around 1880, most likely in Continental Europe, judging by the style of the workmanship. It is made in 14 karat gold at the back and is silver fronted. The gold has a gorgeous tone to it, mid way between yellow and rose gold, what a beautiful antique colour and patina ! Both metals are tested as there is no hallmark. It was likely originally a convertible brooch and pendant, and a part of a fabulous set. This very likely included a tiara, as the pendant has the part of the back screw setting remaining at the back. Victorians loved making sets with interchangeable pieces and these were often split up between members of the family. The celestial theme was revered and very much in fashion, we still love them so today !

The star measures 45.3 mm in diameter and weighs 13.5 grams. The total length of the pendant with the bale is 50.6 mm. It is beautifully set with an estimated 3.90 carats of wonderful old mine cut diamonds, I-J colour VS to SI2 clarity. The centre stone is estimated around 0.90 carats. The silver setting with its antique patina lends the lovely old mine cut diamonds a gorgeous, lightly moonlit hue for a truly celestial mood. The pendant is in a fantastic antique condition. The chain is not included in the listing.
