Fabulous Antique Victorian Diamond Celestial Moon Crescent Pendant

The most beautiful ever, exquisite, divine moon crescent pendant. Its floral detailing in gorgeous early cut diamonds is just out of this world! And the superbly fine, delicate gold work detail - just stunning! This heavenly beauty was for us a celestial love at first sight!!

She dates back to 1850-1860, lovely mid Victorian Era creation, not easily found among the crescents. She is set with stunning, chunky and early old mine and rose cut diamonds with high tables, brimming with brilliant, icy fire. The diamonds are lovely and white and estimated to be G-H colour and are very clean with only a couple of tiny inclusions between them. They throw a beautiful sparkle of light around them. They are estimated to weigh 2 carats in total and are all original to the piece.

The crescent was originally a convertable piece of jewellery, most likely belonging to a set. It has a screw fitting at the back, which enabled it to be worn as a brooch or part of a tiara. Those fabulous sets were often separated, as they were passed on as coveted heirlooms to different family members. Just imagine a tiara set with several of those beauties!! The crescent is now a pendant, created by adding a large bale, which fits through thicker chains or the dog clip of your Albert chain. The bale is made from the original brooch pin. There is a fine layer of rose gold at the back, which tests 18 karat. The front of the crescent is made in silver, the diamonds are set in superb, pinched collet settings. The back is cut out ever so beautifully, with as much precision and care as the front - this is always a sign of the fantastic quality of a jewel.

The crescent itself measures 32.4 mm north to south and 28.3 mm side to side. Its total length with the bale is 39.3 mm, a lovely size. It weighs 7.07 grams and is in a wonderful antique condition.

Crescents symbolise guidance and growth, the ever changing states and phases of life, just like the ever changing moon. They also hold a meaning of new beginnings, hence were gifted to new brides as a symbol of the new relationship growing and maturing.
