She is a natural Australian opal, how on earth did Mother Nature create this breathtaking, heart fluttering, jaw dropping beauty ?? This gem is of the most incredible quality, her colour play is sublime, with thicker strokes of rich colour which we love to see. She is a gemstone opera singer and we marvel at her range of tones. Her colours glow from acid greens to indigo blues and purples, to bright oranges and electric yellows, with that orange-red glow that raises from underneath her when you turn her to the side. The presence of this sunset coloured glow is what tells you that you are in the presence of a very special opal indeed.
This majestic beauty dates back to around 1920. Her setting is a beautiful Art Deco, geometric in design platinum shank, bearing no hallmarks and so tested. Its styling is stunning, so elegant and chic. Its shaping is a perfect framing for the elongated oval of the opal and is incredibly flattering on the hand. The shank is set with 20 beautiful, bright and white early single cut diamonds with a total weigh of around 0.20 carats. The opal measures 16.94 by 8.99 mm, a stunning size. It is difficult to calculate her exact carat size without taking her out of her setting, we have measured and calculated as carefully as possible and conclude she weighs an estimated 4.77 carats. Not only is the opal of utmost quality, it is also in a phenomenal condition, no chips, cracks or crazing, just the minimal wear to the surface as you would expect in an antique opal that has lived in his setting for at least 120 years. She has thankfully been looked after very well and clearly much loved. The platinum setting with its twinkly diamonds is also in a fantastic antique condition.
The top of the ring measures 17.69 mm north to south. The width with the diamond shoulders is 17.99 mm. The ring sits 7 mm off the top of your finger and she weighs 4.6 grams. She is a US size 6 10/16 or UK N 1/4 and easily re-sizeable up or down.
