Art Deco Jadeite Jade Carved Pendant
June Sale
In the Imperial China the word "jade" meant "precious". It was a symbol of purity, serenity, divine, unconditional love and strength. It was said to balance emotions and dispel illness when worn around the neck.
Chinese jade first appeared in the West in the sixteenth century, brought over to Europe by the Portuguese traders. It reached the height of the popularity in the beginning of the 20th century and continues to be a symbol of love, wealth and status. It is often seen with Chinese carvings. The best of jade has a waxy appearance with good, strong, translucent colour. Good jade appreciates in value, and it is a fantastic investment, bought in antique jewellery, as modern jade is often dyed to enhance colour.
Our Art Deco jadeite jade pendant ( as opposed to nephrite jade, which is less valuable ) depict a stylised fish -m a Chinese symbol of good luck, wealth and prosperity. The pendant is double sided with the same carving on the other side. The bale is done in 9 karat yellow gold. The jade is a lovely, apple green colour, beautiful ! The jade itself measures 29.9 mm by 17.6 mm, with the thickness of 3.6 mm. The total length of the pendant with the bale is 34.6 mm. It weighs 2.9 grams and is in lovely antique condition.
We love .... this gorgeous symbol of divine love and abundance, a precious jewel and an amulet.
