Art Deco Continental Silver Chain 27.5 Inch Necklace With Marcasite Clasp
This Art Deco silver chain necklace was made around 1920 in Continental Europe.
It is hallmarked with "835" for 83.5 % silver, a slightly lower silver content to the 925 sterling silver. This type of silver was commonly used from the end of 19th to mid 20th century in European countries, mainly Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Portugal, Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia, the three latter evolving from the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
It features a traditional, simple link and a lovely clasp, set with marcasites. The clasp is geometric, classically Art Deco in design, with an interesting and very secure clasp closure - this one is impossible to loose, if it were to open when worn ! This chain would look lovely with Edwardian, Arts and Crafts and Art Deco pendants.
The chain is a longer, opera length of 27.5 inches, it can be shortened if you so wish. The link of the chain is 1.5 mm wide, very durable and sturdy while retaining a fine look. It weighs 4.7 grams and is in very good antique condition. This necklace is perfect for layering of the chains, and will look interesting with the clasp worn to the side
We love .... this absolutely lovely, elegant and fine Continental European Art Deco Necklace !
