Antique Victorian Mourning Diamond Enamel Ribbon Ring Dated 1854

This most darling early Victorian diamond and enamel mourning ring dates back to 1854.
 
The ring is of English origin and beautifully hand crafted in 18 karat rich yellow gold, fully hallmarked for London 1854, with maker's mark CK for Charles kay, registered in 1826. The lovely diagonal ribbon shaped decorations are opulent and beautifully preserved, set with graduating old mine cut diamonds. These are a lovely, early high table cut and are interspersed with black enamel with graceful fleur de lis motifs . The enamel is original and in good condition with minor, shallow abrasions, which is usual for the age of the ring, but there are no chips or any other faults. These are only detectable under a strong magnification and are more visible in our photos, in a flash of the camera. The ring is otherwise in great antique condition.
 
The interior of the ring features a compartment for a locket which would have contained a lock of hair but it is now empty. It is inscribed with the name of "John Vaudrey Obt 25th Jan 1861 A' 81". 
 
The top of the ring including the shoulders is 20.46 mm wide and it measures 6.86 mm north to south. The band tapers gently down to 2.4 mm at the back. It sits 3.17 mm off the top of the finger and weights 3.6 grams. Due to the shape and thickness of the band the ring has a little wiggle room with the sizing - it will fit a US size 5 7/8-6 (UK L 1/2-M). The ring cannot be re-sized.
