Antique Victorian Moonstone Diamond Earrings

We are obsessed with these ethereal Victorian rose cut diamond and moonstone MOON earrings!! The moonstones glow and please check out the gorgeous rose cut diamonds for the celestial twinkle and beautiful cut ... it's all in the details!

These stunning antique dangle earrings were handcrafted in the Victorian period, around 1870, most likely in the Austro Hungarian Empire, in 14 karat rose gold and silver settings for the gemstones. There are such beautiful details there; the lovely, chunky hand cut rose diamonds, set in closed back settings and foiled at the back, the domed, closed back setting for the moonstones and fine, graceful, pierced gallery all around. The sparkly diamonds are silvery white, one of the bottom ones shows a little brown in our photos, but this is due to the camera flash on the foiling underneath, not the colour of the stone, and is not visible in natural light.The setting on foil reflects the light off the facets of the diamonds and provides the very specific and much loved antique sparkle, the blend of the gentle grey borrowed from the silver settings with the lively, distinguished play of light. The drops at the bottom are wonderful, moon shaped, graduated clusters with the moonstones secured in pinched collet settings. 


Those fabulous earrings have a brilliantly wearable length of 27.7 mm ( from the top of the hook wire ) and are light and comfortable on the ears weighing 5.3 gams together, 2.65 grams each. The clusters at the bottom measure 13.7 (16 mm with the diamond top) by 12 mm. The 9 carat gold hook fittings are a recent replacement, they are made in 9 karat matching colour rose gold.
