Antique Victorian Acrostic Dearest 15K Gold Ring

We are excited to present to you this Victorian acrostic "Dearest" ring!! They are getting exceedingly hard to find.

" Acrostic" means the word "puzzle" or "composition". Jewellery spelling romantic messages in the language of gemstones became all the rage in the 1800s and continued until the end of the 19th century. Napoleon had an acrostic bracelet made for his sister's baby girl, and the craze hit England! The first letter of each gemstone spells out the affectionate word DEAREST in this sweet multicoloured ring. We have Diamond, Emerald, Aquamarine, Ruby, Emerald, Spinel and Turquoise. 

This sentimental beauty is made of 15 karat gold and is hallmarked with 15 Ct. She is an English darling, hand crafted around 1890. She is in a lovely antique condition including all the stones, they are natural, wonderfully bright and sparkly. The gold colour is predominantly rose gold, but she used to be additionally gilded in yellow gold, as most Victorian jewels were at the time, so the gold colour comes through a bit by the settings, creating a lovely patina. The style of the ring is called the carved shank, which used to be a very popular style in Victorian times. We love it, as the ring is suitable to be worn as a unique and romantic engagement ring with the wedding band, or stacked with other rings. She is a US 5 ( UK J 1/2 ) and is resizable up within reason, but not down. Matter of fact, she was sized down at some point from the original, you can see the faint line beside the hallmark in our photos. 

The gem set top of the ring measures 17.7 mm side to side and 3.4 mm top to bottom. The back of the band is 2.4 mm wide and she sits nice and low, 2.7 mm off the top of your finger. She weighs 2.6 grams and is in lovely antique condition. 

We love .... her multicoloured gems, they are so lovely ! We think that she adds a very DEAREST and beautiful touch to any ring stack, isn't that the best looking puzzle ever ?
