Antique Georgian Paste Earrings

These Georgian paste earrings date from around 1790-1800. They are very wearable and look wonderful with anything at all, truly the earrings for all occasions.

The round paste stones are foil set in silver and we love the antique, full and rounded backs on these. We adore their pinched colet settings so much ! Originally, these were Georgian buttons, sawn on the sumptuous clothing for then, a fashionable look. They were often converted into earrings throughout the following years, when the sparkly buttons went out of fashion. The elegant hook ear fittings are made out of 9 karat yellow gold, not hallmarked but tested. We will supply you with the soft, small plastic guards for the wire fittings that are not noticeable when worn to keep the earrings just how you like them on your ear lobes.

The paste stones in foiled settings measure 10.5 mm in diameter. The settings with the stones' depth is 6.0 and 7.4 mm, so lovely and chunky ! They are a charming, moody, champaign / cognac colour. The paste stones are cut just like old mine cut diamonds would have been at the time. The foil behind one of the pastes is darker than the other, which makes one of the stones look darker. This shows in our photos, but it is not as noticeable when they are worn. The photos taken on Liz wearing them show them both. The earring's length, visible from the front as you wear them is 16.9 and 17.3 mm, while their total length with the wires is 22.2 mm. They weigh a super comfortable 2.4 grams together. The stones and the earrings on the whole are in fair antique condition, they have been used and loved for nearly 250 years ! The facets of the pastes have some gentle rubbing to them and a couple of scratches, visible with a jeweller's loupe.

We love ...... how wonderfully flattering these earrings are, elegant and easy to wear. They are nearly 250 years old yet are so contemporary, with that unmistakable antique charm we adore so much.
