Antique Georgian Foiled Garnet Charm Pendant Dangler

Beautiful, juicy Georgian garnets, the colour of glistening pomegranate or deep burgundy wine. With movement, the light brings out the shades of deep red from within.

Garnets were mined in Russia, Australia, India, Bohemia, Myanmar, Brazil and Sri Lanka, which used to be called the Island of Jewels.

They were revered by ancient Egyptians and Romans and favourites of the Russian royalty and British Georgians and Victorians. This stunning gem is purported to possess the powers of good health, prosperity and peace, hope and happiness. It is a January birthstone and a second wedding anniversary gift.

This tiny beauty was a part of a late Georgian pendant, hand crafted in England around 1830 in 9 karat rose gold. We made several lovely charms, or danglers as we like to call them. They can be worn alone or feature in your inspired neck mess, a medley of chains and charms to express the individual you !

This sweet yellow gold charm is not hallmarked and tests 9 karat gold. The bale added is also 9 karat gold in matching yellow gold. The garnet is a beautifully cut, flat, faceted stone in a domed, closed back, delicious bezel setting, foiled underneath in true Georgian style. This was done to make the garnets glow, and this one is just lovely !! The garnet is a natural pyrope garnet and is in a fantastic shape being 200 years old, no rubbing on the facets or other damage. It measures 4.16 mm top to bottom by 4.06 mm side to side in her setting while the charm is 11.1 mm long with the bale. It weighs 0.2 grams and, apart from the tiny bit of nibbling on the setting, it is in lovely antique condition.
