Antique Georgian Diamond Pearl Cluster Ring Dated 1826

Antique Georgian Diamond Pearl Cluster Ring Dated 1826

£1,040.00Price

Pearls and diamonds were the favourite gems chosen by Georgians for their engagement and bridal jewellery

This classic combination stayed favoured as wedding jewellery, as well as for engagement rings right until the 1930's. Still now, there are no other gems quite like diamonds and pearls that will make the bride's face glow more radiantly and express the sentiment of the occasion. For the romantic Georgians pearls were symbols of innocence, purity and cosmic harmony, while the diamonds symbolised endurance.. The rich, yellow gold these gems were set in complements them to absolute perfection.

The ring we have here for you was likely an engagement ring. In true regency style, it is richly decorated with floral chasing and has a gorgeous fluted band. Designed as a daisy, it is set with plump, natural seed pearls and a lovely, square old mine cut diamond in its centre. We can see that some of the pearls have been replaced some time ago with antique, natural seed pearls, and so are now varried slightly in tone. This is more visible in the flash of the camera and under strong magnification. The pearls look nearly uniform when the ring is worn in natural light.

This beauty is skilfully hand crafted in 15 and 18 karat yellow gold. Unusually for that time, it is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1826 with maker's marks "H" and digits "18 15" in a single cartouche for the gold content. The ring spreads 16.8 mm across the finger and measures 8.6 mm north to south. It sits nice and low, just 3.7 mm off the top of your finger and weighs 2.9 grams. Apart from the mentioned pearl replacements, the ring is in very good antique condition. It is size US 6.5 or UK N. The re-sizing of it is not advised, as it would interfere with the lovely, antique hallmarks. It would also be quite tricky to re-size this gorgeous, fluted band.

We love..... the romantic, creamy pearls with the gentle twinkle of the diamond, and the rich, deep hue of the gold. This ring is all charm, so fine and feminine, quite like the Georgian wedding lace.
