Antique 16.5 Inch 9K Rose Gold Albert Chain Necklace Dated 1920
Chunky, heavy, solid gold opulence...
This solid 9 karat rose gold Albert chain was used as a gentelman's watch chain when first made in Birmingham, England. It has "375." "9" marks on one side of each link, as well as both the dog clips and the T bar. There is also a stamp for Birmingham and a date letter "V" for 1920. The dog clips and the T bar feature a stamp with the makers mark "W.H.C & S", most likely for W.H. Collins & Sons. They were manufacturing jewellers and goldsmiths firm, based on Rookery Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, England.They produced high quality gold and silver items in early 20th century. Both the dog clips as well as the bar are fully original to the chain which is so lovely to see. Many of these components have been changed or replaced over the years on Albert chains, so it is fantastic to have found one that is completely original. Even though the chain is dated 1920, and so just past the end of the Edwardian era, it is made in a true, classic Victorian style and with the same look and fantastic quality of workmanship.
This gorgeous chain is now fashionably repurposed as a great necklace worn by itself or with your pendants and charms. You can wear it hallmarks up or choose the smooth side to show for a different look. The chain is solid and heavy at 42.3 grams and looks and feels ever so smooth and truly luxurious. The colour of the antique rose gold is beautiful and mellow, as is the condition of this stunning necklace. The links are nice wide too, even in width along the whole length of the necklace at 5.9 mm. This chain is 16.5 inches long, including the dog clasps.
