A Pair Of French Antique 19th Century Enamel Gilt Metal Articulated Puppet Charm

We cannot get over how brilliant these two little guys are!! A pair of early to mid 19th Century French enamel and gilt metal articulated puppet charms! We have discovered that they are the character Polichinelle of the masquerade, which became a thing, a puppetry craze, in the 17th Century!! Polichinelle inspired several like characters across Europe, among others Mr. Punch, from Punch and Judy. We love their colouring, of course some enamel has worn away due to their age but this is to be expected - these two are still standing strong! 

They are so much fun ! They move their arms, both together or one arm separately from another, swinging their swords ! Their legs also bend at the hip, so they can stand upright or sit. We love the detail on their clothes. Altogether, they are just fab!

They measure 1.5 inches in length and about 0.5 inches in width at the widest. They weigh 6.9 grams together and are in good antique condition for very old soldiers, don't you think?

We love .... the fun these adorable French puppets bring, they are history alive !
